St John’s Toft
St John the Evangelist is a semi-rural, traditional Anglican church in Toft Parish, in Cheshire. It was built in 1852 and is a united benefice with St John the Baptist Church in nearby Knutsford. Its teaching is centred upon the Bible and is a church open to all ages, committed to Jesus Christ as the only Son of God, our Lord and Saviour. St John the Evangelist has its own graveyard, both for the burial of bodies and for cremated remains, which is visited regularly and beautifully maintained by a team of volunteers, who meet every alternate Saturday at 10:00-12:00. Their website is Friends of Toft.
At 10.15 am there is our main Sunday service:
- once a month this is an ‘all-age’ service, accessible to and engaging for the whole Church family
- on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, this is a service of Holy Communion from “Common Worship”.
- if there is a 5th Sunday in the month, the Book of Common Prayer is used.
At all of our services there is a substantial sermon following a Biblical series.
There is a church hall next to the church where young people go for their age-appropriate Biblical learning. A 4-page leaflet, The Toft Parishioner, is produced 3 times a year – Easter, Harvest and Christmas, in which Revd Young writes a short letter, and it gives details of services, contact details for clergy and staff, and dates of recent weddings and funerals.
